I’m going to try to include a cool referral with each announcement so that we can grow in our knowledge of local bay area resources. Today’s resource I would like to highlight is Lavender Seniors.
They are an organization dedicated to improving the lives of older adults. This is from their website:
Like others facing the challenges of aging, LGBT seniors deserve respectful, high quality health and human services. Lavender Seniors provides social support services and a vibrant caring community of LGBT older adults. Our programs foster a sense of belonging for all LGBT older adults particularly those who are isolated, vulnerable, disabled and at risk. We also participate in local, statewide, and national advocacy efforts for the betterment of the LGBT and mainstream older adult community.
They have services including the friendly visitor program which aims to build a social support network for the LGBT elders. They organize volunteers to provide home visits, meals, and telephone supports. Lavender Seniors also host a monthly lunch where members of the community can come together and make friends and visit.
Read their website for more information.
