Clarification (or not) about our role with Mariposa Calls

To streamline services in Mariposa County, they have decided to have one phone number for all social services in the county. People who call APS, CPS, or Mariposa Behavioral Health Services all get forward to us after hours. There is no way to distinguish who they were trying to reach unless you ask.

When the caller ID say, “Mariposa”, answer, “Mariposa Afterhours.” Listen to their story for a little bit, and then ask, “Who are you calling for? APS, CPS, or Mariposa Behavioral Health.”

If it is a caregiver or client who is calling to make an APS or CPS report, get the caller’s name and phone number, call the on-call person, and the on-call person will call them back.

If the caller is calling Behavioral Health Services, and there is suspected child abuse, or elder/dependent adult abuse, assess for safety, gather information, and fill out a report. Then call the on-call person, who will take the report and follow up.
