Cris from the community education program of CSS gave a talk at Alameda Alliance. They are the MediCal Provider for Alameda County. (County Health Insurance.) From time to time, you make get a call from an Alameda Alliance Clinician who is concerned with a person who has some risk of suicide. They may warm transfer the suicidal caller to you. They may stay on the phone with you, or they may hang up and let you talk to the person at risk. The choice is up to the suicidal person.
Try to talk to the clinician before they connect the person at risk. Make sure to get a synopsis of what has already been said between the Alameda Alliance clinician and the caller. Also, you can get the address, phone number and full name of the caller, before the clinician connects the person at risk. This is just in case we need to do emergency procedures.
These protocols can apply to other community based organizations. Consult with you shift supervisor if you have any questions.
