PREP Program

We had a presentation from PREP (Prevention and Recovery in Early Psychosis), a program to serve teens and young adults (age 16-24) who are experiencing the early onset (first 2 years) of psychosis related to schizophrenia, schizoform, and schizoaffective disorders. They do not serve people who are experiencing psychosis as a feature of Bipolar disorder or as a result of drug use. PREP does not accept private insurance, but does accept Medical/care. PREP uses evidence based practices, including CBT to reduce the impact of symptoms, and medication (which is optional). Prep clients have a team of mental health workers who take a client centered approach and work with each client’s individual goals for treatment. PREP uses Motivational Interviewing with clients concerning drug use (75% of clients have co-occuring problems with substance abuse). Clients and their families have access to activity groups, health and wellness groups, and support groups. Clients also can see supported education and vocational specialists to help them with school and finding employment.

Please see the power point printout for PREP for more details about the organization, and to find out how to refer callers or service providers to PREP.

Have callers call 1-888-535-PREP (7737) if they are interested in learning more about PREP.
The other thing is that we answer the phones for PREP afterhours.
