Prayer on the Crisis Lines

Some of our callers like to call in to make a little prayer for the day, or for themselves. Is it appropriate to indulge in a little religion on the crisis lines? There is no clear answer to this question. We must first ask ourselves what is our role as a counselor? What is most helpful to the caller? Sometimes, rituals can get in the way of what the caller needs?

Check it out. If a caller is calling numerous times on a shift you can respond with, "I've noticed that you have called a few times in the last hour. Is something going on? What can you do to take care of yourself in between calls?" "Before you say your prayer, do you want to talk about anything happening in your life right now? How can we make the prayer more meaningful."
