-Have you ever talked with someone who keeps pulling for advice from you but then rejects them all? These problems seem so big! The call lasts for a long time but nothing gets accomplished. The counselor is left feeling frustrated.
What can you do?
-Show concern but not too much concern. Therapeutic Blasaie/non-chalance
-Set limits on time: Do not go longer then 7 minutes. It can be extremely exhausting
-Resist the temptation to give advice
-Stay out of the pull:
The pull comes from a power struggle
It comes from the caller feelings of powerlessness
There is also a feeling of helplessness. This makes us want to help the caller.
Emotional Volitility: the caller may be explosive, or easily frustrated. They may get angry at you. The caller may create a sense of urgency
