Cool Organizations to know about

Mariposa Project (PI: Tooru Nemoto, Ph.D.) aims to prevent substance abuse and HIV risk behaviors among high-risk young transgender women of color in Alameda and San Francisco counties based on the collaboration of the Public Health Institute and HealthRIGHT360. As one of intervention components of Mariposa Project, Health Educators provide transgender sensitivity trainings to service providers as well as students and faculty at colleges/universities in Alameda and San Francisco counties in order to increase the levels of understanding of substance use and HIV issues among transgender people and sensitivity toward transgender people.
Health Intervention Projects for Underserved Populations (HIPUP) aims to improve substance abuse and HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment research and services for underserved populations, such as transgender persons, Asian and Pacific Islander men who have sex with men (MSM) and substance users. Through collaboration with targeted community members, community-based organizations and public health departments, HIPUP, led by Dr. Tooru Nemoto, strives to have a significant impact on health promotion and human rights for underserved communities locally and internationally.
